DO Tuition – Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 09 February 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to DO Tuition (“we”, “us”, “our”). By accessing or using our website at www.dotuition.co.uk (“Our Site”) and our tutoring services, including booking or attending any lesson (“Lesson”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). Please read them carefully before using the platform.

If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not use Our Site or our booking system.

These Terms apply to:

  • Students using DO Tuition for lessons;
  • Parents/guardians or other adults booking on behalf of a Student (“Sponsors”); and
  • Tutors who use DO Tuition to provide lessons.

2. Description of Services

DO Tuition provides an online platform where students can:

  • Request and book one-to-one online tutoring sessions
  • Book multiple lessons as a booking “pack”
  • View and manage lesson timings in their account
  • Track payments, lesson credits, and tutor confirmations
  • Access lesson links provided by tutors (whiteboard or video links)

Tutors operate on a self-employed basis. DO Tuition acts as the booking, scheduling and payment facilitator between students (or Sponsors) and tutors, and may also deliver some lessons directly.

We aim to match students with suitable tutors, but we do not guarantee any particular exam grade, academic outcome, or result.

3. Who We Are & Other Documents That Apply

DO Tuition is based in the United Kingdom and operates the DO Tuition website and lesson platform.

These Terms should be read together with:

  • Our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and use your personal data (available here);
  • Any additional tutor-specific terms if you work with us as a tutor (see Section 19);
  • Any separate written agreement for school or institutional programmes, where applicable.

4. Eligibility, Students Under 18 & User Accounts

4.1 Eligibility & Under-18s

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account in your own name and pay for lessons directly.
  • If a student is under 18, a Sponsor (e.g. parent or guardian) must:
    • create and manage the account;
    • book and pay for lessons; and
    • remain responsible for the student’s use of the platform and compliance with these Terms.
  • By booking lessons for a student, the Sponsor confirms they have authority to do so and accept responsibility for all payments, conduct and use of the platform.

4.2 User Accounts

To use the platform, students and tutors must create an account with accurate details. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for all activity on your account.

If you suspect your account has been compromised, you must notify us immediately at support@dotuition.co.uk.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts where misuse, fraud, abusive behaviour, or breaches of these Terms are identified.

5. Access to Our Site & Platform

  • Access to Our Site is provided free of charge.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure you have a suitable device, internet connection and software to access Our Site and any online lesson (e.g. a laptop, webcam, microphone, stable broadband).
  • Our Site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that Our Site, booking system or online tools will always be available or uninterrupted.
  • We may suspend, withdraw or change any part of Our Site for maintenance, security or business reasons. Where reasonably possible, we will try to give notice, but we are not obliged to do so.
  • Our Site is primarily intended for users located in the United Kingdom. We do not promise that Our Site or its content is appropriate or available for use in other countries.

6. Payments & Billing

6.1 Payment Providers & Security

Payments and payment details are handled securely through our payment partners (including PayPal, or Stripe for card payments). We do not store full card numbers or CVV codes on our own servers.

6.2 Payment Timing

Depending on the payment method selected and whether you book single lessons or a block of lessons, your payment may be processed as follows:

  • Immediate Capture: If your bank requires an additional security check (e.g., 3D Secure), payment is authorised and captured immediately.
  • PayPal: Payment is typically captured within one hour after the payment method is confirmed.
  • Standard Card Payments: Payment is typically captured within 72 hours before the lesson start time.

6.3 Block-Booking Discounts

It is entirely in the tutor's discretion to set any block-booking discount. Any applicable block-booking discount is shown clearly before you confirm your payment method for the booking.

6.4 Minimum Transaction Value

Before you confirm a payment method, you are shown the 'Total Due'. This is the value of the lesson cost including any discounts. If you have enough lesson credits to cover the full lesson cost, a minimum transaction of £0.30 is still required. We do this to ensure that every booking is linked to a valid, secure transaction with our payment providers.

6.5 Lesson Credits

If a lesson is cancelled and eligible for a refund under Section 8, the refundable amount is normally returned to you as lesson credits, not as a cash refund, unless we expressly state otherwise in writing.

  • Lesson credits are automatically applied to reduce the cost of future lessons (subject to the minimum transaction value in 6.4).
  • Credits cannot be converted back into money or withdrawn to a bank account or PayPal.
  • Credits may be used across multiple lessons until fully used.
  • Unless we state otherwise at the time of issue, lesson credits will expire after 12 months from the date of issue. Any expiry date will be communicated in the credit summary in your account.

7. Booking, Rescheduling & Tutor Confirmation

7.1 Booking Process

A lesson is considered fully confirmed when:

  • The student (or Sponsor) submits a booking request via the DO Tuition platform; and
  • The tutor reviews and actively confirms the lesson in their account.

Until the tutor confirms, the lesson remains in a “Pending Tutor” status and may not go ahead.

7.2 Student Rescheduling

Students may request changes to the lesson date or time through their DO Tuition account. If you reschedule the start time or date of a lesson, your tutor will need to reconfirm the new date and time. In some cases, your payment method may need to be re-authorised.

7.3 Missed Lessons

A lesson is considered missed if the student does not attend and has not cancelled using the platform. Missed lessons are chargeable in full and are not eligible for refunds or lesson credits.

8. Cancellation & Refund Policy

Refunds are issued as lesson credits only, unless we state otherwise in writing. Cash refunds are not normally provided.

8.1 Student Cancellations – Time-Window Rule

The value of credits you receive depends on how close to the lesson time you cancel. We use the closest recorded time between your cancellation and the lesson start (“time-window rule”). This rule still applies even if the lesson date or time has been modified by either the student, sponsor, or tutor. For example: if a lesson is scheduled for 01 January 2025 at 13:00 GMT and the current date and time is 01 January 2025 at 11:00 GMT, the closest recorded time is 2 hours, even if either the student, sponsor or tutor changes the lesson date or time to a later date or time. Where a tutor changes a lesson's date or time, they must notify the student (or their sponsor) either before making the change, or promptly afterwards, and this must be done in writing. If a lesson is cancelled, the applicable refund (issued as lesson credits) is determined based on the time-window listed below.

  • 72 hours or more before the lesson: 100% of the lesson value as credits
  • 48–72 hours before the lesson: 75% of the lesson value as credits
  • 24–48 hours before the lesson: 50% of the lesson value as credits
  • 1–24 hours before the lesson: 25% of the lesson value as credits
  • Less than 1 hour before the lesson: 0% (the lesson is not refundable)

If a payment had not yet been captured or was not authorised as a pending transaction by the payment provider, at the time of cancellation, we may ensure that no charge is taken instead of issuing credits.

8.2 Tutor Cancellations

If your tutor cancels a confirmed lesson and payment has been taken or was authorised as a pending transaction by the payment provider, you will receive 100% of the lesson value as lesson credits. Tutors do not receive payout for any lessons they cancel.

8.3 Multi-Lesson Packs

For Stripe and PayPal lesson packs, cancelling one lesson does not automatically cancel or refund the entire pack. The cancelled lesson will be treated in line with the time-window rule outlined in section 8.1.

8.4 Technical Issues

  • You are responsible for your own internet connection and equipment. If your connection fails or your device does not work, the lesson may still be chargeable under the rules above.
  • If a lesson is materially affected by a technical problem on our side or the tutor’s side (for example a platform outage that prevents the session from taking place), we will work with you to:
    • re-run or extend the lesson where practical; or
    • provide lesson credits for the affected part of the lesson.

9. Student Responsibilities

Students (and Sponsors, where applicable) agree to:

  • Ensure they have a suitable device, internet connection, and environment for online lessons
  • Attend lessons on time and be prepared with any required materials
  • Communicate respectfully with tutors and DO Tuition staff
  • Use the DO Tuition platform to manage bookings, cancellations, and rescheduling
  • Follow any reasonable instructions given by the tutor during the lesson

10. Tutor Responsibilities

Tutors agree to:

  • Deliver lessons professionally, on time, and to a reasonable standard of care.
  • Confirm or reject booking requests promptly via their DO Tuition account.
  • Provide appropriate online lesson links where required (e.g. whiteboard or video).
  • Comply with all relevant safeguarding guidance and legal obligations, including holding a valid DBS check.
  • Commission: Agree that DO Tuition will deduct a flat commission rate from the total value of each lesson booking before payout.
  • Payouts: Understand that payments for completed lessons are processed fortnightly and sent to your nominated bank account.
  • Cancellations: If you cancel a lesson, you will not receive payout for that session. Frequent cancellations may result in a review of your profile.

11. Intellectual Property

Lesson materials, resources, and content provided by tutors remain the property of the tutor, or DO Tuition where we have created the materials, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Students may use materials for their own personal study only. Copying, sharing, reselling, or publishing these materials without permission is not allowed.

All content on Our Site (including text, graphics, logos, images, audio, video and code) is owned by or licensed to DO Tuition and is protected by UK and international intellectual property law. You may not use Our Site content for commercial purposes without our prior written consent.

12. Behaviour & Acceptable Use

We expect all users (students, sponsors and tutors) to behave respectfully and lawfully.

  • You must not use abusive, offensive, discriminatory or threatening language towards any tutor, student or staff member.
  • You must not send or request inappropriate or unlawful material.
  • You must not attempt to bypass the DO Tuition platform to avoid payment processing (for example, by arranging ongoing paid lessons privately with a tutor you met through DO Tuition). We may suspend or close accounts if we reasonably believe this is happening.
  • You must not use Our Site in any way that is unlawful, fraudulent, or harms our systems or other users (for example by introducing viruses or attempting to gain unauthorised access).

13. Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

DO Tuition is committed to the highest standards of safety and child protection. By using our platform, you acknowledge and agree to the following safeguarding protocols:

13.1 Tutor Vetting

All tutors listed on DO Tuition are required to hold a valid Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate, or the international equivalent where applicable. We verify these documents before a user account is issued with Tutor status.

13.2 Lesson Environment

All lessons take place online unless otherwise agreed in writing. Tutors and students must maintain a professional environment at all times. Monitoring: For the safety of both parties, lessons may be monitored by an authorised member of DO Tuition staff holding Enhanced DBS clearance or equivalent background screening. This member of staff may, from time to time, join live sessions to ensure appropriate standards of conduct and student safety.

13.3 Parental Supervision

For students under the age of 18, we strongly recommend that a parent or guardian (Sponsor) remains in the vicinity (e.g., in the next room with the door open) during the lesson.

13.4 Reporting Concerns

If you have any concerns regarding the conduct of a tutor or the safety of a student, you must report this immediately to our support email address via support@dotuition.co.uk. All reports are treated in strict confidence.

14. Liability

DO Tuition does not guarantee specific academic grades, outcomes, or results. Progress will depend on the student’s own effort, engagement, and circumstances.

While we aim to work only with suitable tutors, we are not responsible for the individual performance of any tutor or for disputes between tutors and students, although we will try to help resolve issues where reasonably possible.

We are not liable for technical issues such as internet failures, software problems, or device issues that prevent a lesson from running smoothly, except where this is caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded.

Subject to the paragraph above, our total liability to you in connection with the use of Our Site and services shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to DO Tuition for lessons in the 6 months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim.

15. Data Protection & Privacy

We collect and process personal data in line with our Privacy Policy. This includes data needed to:

  • Manage your account and bookings
  • Process payments
  • Send lesson updates and important notifications
  • Maintain the safety and performance of the platform

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only where necessary to provide the service (for example, with payment providers, email services or tutors), or where required by law.

For full details of how we handle your personal data, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

16. Links, Security & Viruses

16.1 Links to Our Site

  • You may link to Our Site’s homepage in a fair and lawful way.
  • You must not link to Our Site in a way that suggests any association, approval or endorsement by us where none exists.
  • You must not frame Our Site on another website without our prior written permission.

16.2 Links to Other Sites

  • Our Site may contain links to other websites or services (for example Google Meet, email providers or payment services).
  • Such sites are not under our control and we are not responsible for their content, security or policies.

16.3 Viruses & Security

  • We use reasonable efforts to keep Our Site secure and free from malware, but we cannot guarantee this.
  • You are responsible for using your own antivirus, firewall and security measures.
  • You must not introduce viruses, attempt to gain unauthorised access to Our Site, or attempt any denial-of-service attack. We may report such activity to law enforcement.

17. Changes to These Terms & Our Site

We may update these Terms & Conditions and/or Our Site from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and may notify you via the website and/or email.

Your continued use of DO Tuition after changes are published will be treated as acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using Our Site and services.

18. Complaints & Contact

If you have any questions about these Terms & Conditions, or how they apply to your bookings, or if you wish to raise a complaint about a lesson or a tutor, please contact:

Email: support@dotuition.co.uk
Website: www.dotuition.co.uk

We will aim to acknowledge your concern promptly and respond after looking into the issue. In some cases, we may need to contact the tutor or request further details from you.

19. Additional Terms for Tutors

If you are registered as a Tutor on DO Tuition, the following additional terms apply:

  • Self-Employed Status: You operate as a self-employed individual. You are responsible for declaring your own income and paying any applicable taxes (including National Insurance) to HMRC.
  • DBS Checks: You must hold a valid enhanced DBS check (valid within the last 5 years from issue), provide proof of application, or hold the international equivalent screening where applicable. You must email this to the Site Admin before conducting your first lesson.
  • No Off-Platform Dealings: You agree not to solicit students introduced via DO Tuition to pay you directly or outside the platform to avoid commission fees. Doing so is a material breach of these terms and will result in immediate account termination.
  • Payouts for Student Cancellations: You will be paid for late student cancellations based on the time-window rules set out in Section 8.1, minus the platform commission.

20. Law & Jurisdiction

  • These Terms and any non-contractual obligations arising out of them are governed by the law of England and Wales.
  • If you are a consumer, any disputes may be brought in the courts of England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, depending on where you live.
  • If you are using DO Tuition in the course of business, you agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
